TSHIMOLOGONG'S
METHODOLOGY

The Tshimologong Incubation Team has developed a customised programme which combines the Lean Methodology, Design Thinking, Blue Ocean Strategy, Disruptive Innovation with top technology principles.

Tshimologong runs programmes workshops and specialised masterclasses for digital start-ups that fall in the following phases:

Stage 0: Entrepreneurial Mindset training
Stage 1: Ideation
Stage 2: Incubation
Stage 3: Acceleration

The process that is followed focuses on teaching entrepreneurs the basic tools around building a business, as well as how to think in first principles, breaking problems down to their core (as per Elon Musk).

Each Programme is developed according to the needs of the startups and the desired outcomes of the partners, which all affects duration, time commitment and outputs.

STAGE 00
ENTREPRENEURIAL
MINDSET TRAINING

Potential entrepreneurs come and test their new ideas by learning about various tools in the Lean Start-up Methodology and Design Thinking space. Initially developed by Stevel Blank, the programme follows an online course with some discussion workshops

Core to the Lean approach is the build-measure-learn feedback loop, a reiterative process where assumptions are continuously tested and learnings applied to the next product build or service refinement.  This creates a structured approach to the development of a product or service, reduces pain and maximises returns on lessons learned.

ERIC RIES IDENTIFIES FOUR LEAN PRINCIPLES:

Eliminate uncertainty by providing tools to test any idea continuously.
Develop an MVP (minimum viable product) to begin the process and habits of learning and adapting as quickly as possible.
Work smarter not harder by solving real problems with clear specifications on what needs to be built. (By the time a product is ready to be widely distributed, it should already have established customers).
Validated learning focuses the entrepreneurs’ efforts on building products and services that customers want and will pay for. This way entrepreneurs learn to adapt their plans incrementally and continuously.

01

STAGE 01
IDEATION

Ideation is the critical first stage of a startup. During this stage Tshimologong helps entrepreneurs assess the technical viability of the suggested solution, while identifying the existence of a market for the product or service being developed.

Focusing on the problem instead of the solution keeps the entrepreneur open to other possibilities which may serve the customer better and confirms that there is indeed a problem that needs solving.

02

STAGE 02
INCUBATION

Incubation describes the point at which an early business model has been developed alongside the product or service.

Tshimologong assists entrepreneurs in this phase to approach the market place systematically as they set about testing and retesting the validity of their most basic assumptions.

Incubation: Virtual or Physical development and refinement of product, technology and market readiness. Also coming up with disruptive ideas with the hope of building out a business model and company.

03

STAGE 03
ACCELERATION

Acceleration refers to the activity of intentionally maturing a business post revenue. During an acceleration process Tshimologong helps entrepreneurs develop enhanced business models, products and services to further grow their businesses.

Acceleration: To exponentially scale post-revenue businesses who have innovative value propositions by connecting them with funders, global markets and high impact networks.
