Wits Incubator (Pty) Ltd is a private company established to facilitate the creation and incubation of companies through the Tshimologong Precinct and is based in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Our aim is to:

  • Support innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • Support the rejuvenation of Johannesburg’s inner-city area by stimulating the creation of a digital cluster
  • Grow skills for the digital economy;
  • Provide an exemplar for similar University-based incubators in
  • South Africa and Africa

Community hosts are an integral part of the Tshimologong Precinct experience by setting the tone for a fast-paced and friendly, innovative environment.  This role ensures that all stakeholders (members, guests, event participants) are welcomed into the community as the first touch point to the vision of the precinct.


While your direct reporting line will be to the Community Manager, you will also work closely with the Facilities Manager. As part of the hosting team, your role entails but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

Community Engagement

  • Be aware of everyone who is in the space, welcome walk-ins and direct them as required
  • Implement administrative requirements as directed by the Community Manager
  • Support the creation of a creative, innovative and collaborative work environment
  • Give Tshimologong Precinct tours
  • Provide a feeder for social media content
  • Contribute to Tshimologong hosting practice by:
    • Attending hosting meetings
    • Communicating important and necessary information to the Community Manager
    • Communicating relevant information to other member hosts if necessary
  • Sourcing and compiling content for a community newsletter
  • Sourcing and uploading information on notice screens across the Precinct

Member Recruitment

  • Assist Member Growth Coordinator to implement recruitment drives and campaigns
  • Assist Member Growth Coordinator with briefing sessions as well as tours
  • Manage member applications and assist the Data Analyst with information upon request

Data Capturing

  • Transfer data from paper formats into computer files or database systems using keyboards, data recorders or optical scanners
  • Accurate data capturing essential
  • Type in data provided directly from customers
  • Competence in Microsoft Office particularly Excel
  • Create spreadsheets with large numbers of figures without mistakes
  • Verify data by comparing it to source documents
  • Update existing data
  • Retrieve data from the database or electronic files as requested
  • Perform regular backups to ensure data preservation
  • Sort and organize paperwork after entering data to ensure it is not lost

  • Takes initiative to solve problems
  • Highly motivated: willing to work unusual hours determined by the task at hand
  • Ability to engage with various stakeholders, including people from diverse backgrounds
  • Flexibility: the ability to adapt to an ambiguous startup environment
  • An active interest in digital technology and content


  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills


  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (preferred but not essential)
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience
  • Hospitality or reception experience
