The Precinct Abuzz with Creative Minds

Posted about Animation Interns arrive at the Precinct by Kendal Makgamathe
On the 1st of February, we had the pleasure of welcoming the very first interns to participate in Tshimologongs 2019 Digital Content Hub intern program.

Here we have selected – through rigorous interviews – 20 budding young preproduction artists to be trained in the less well-known aspects of preproduction for animation.

The curriculum, which has been carefully crafted by Lesego Vorster aims at addressing the gaps found in the South African animation industry to improve the overall storytelling and visual impact of an animated production. Furthermore, great emphasis is being put into developing a true Africanized (South African) style which accurately represents day to day living and culture as we move away from the common cliches seen around the world. The interns will be trained up in the arts of Visual development, Character design, Layout, Story Art, Storyboarding and creating strong animatics. The ultimate goal is to inject the industry with strong professionals who can create strong foundations for animations in the future. From the get-go, a culture of “each one teach one” is being instilled to further strengthen our growing community and the quality of work being put out.
For now, everyone will be limbering up as we start with the very first of many steps: drawing.
