Remember Your Descendants Launch

The exhibition Re/Member Your Descendants asks the question: if you were an ancestor, what would your descendants call upon you for? Through a series of interviews, Xabiso Vili and Sonwabo Valashiya have explored the legacy of today’s youth in South Africa. Video interviews interact with illustrations, music and poetry on a digital layer and tell a new innovative South African folk tale through augmented reality. 

Supported by the NewImages Festival and Digital Lab Africa, Vili and Valashiya are recipients of the Digital Lab Africa #3 web creation prize. The project had its soft debut as part of the Africa2020 season and was exhibited at Forum des images from 9 June until 13 June, during the pairs residency at Cite’ Internationale des Arts. It is premiering in South Africa at Fak’ugesi for the first time.
