FINANCE MANAGER

Role description

The Finance Manager position is a key role in finance but also the surrounding business, providing support to the CEO and Senior Management Team driving financial stability and best practice for the organisation. The role will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end finance operations ensuring compliance with financial regulations, financial planning and analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, looking to make improvements to procedures and controls, as well as ad-hoc projects and requests as and when they come up. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. The incumbent is expected to bring a keen eye to developing systems and processes to ensure best practice in budgeting, financial policies, forecasting and reporting across the organisation. The ideal candidate should thrive in a competitive, performance driven culture aligned to the vision of Tshimologong Precinct. Financial Management

Have a solid understanding of financial management practices and principles and be able to effectively manage all financial operations including the company’s budgets, planning, resource and risk management; direct strategies that foster smooth payroll management, tax filing and budgeting procedures. Able to make informed financial decisions and communicate financial information to stakeholders.

Up-to-date Knowledge

Up-to-date knowledge of current financial and accounting computer application

Integrity

Demonstrate high ethical standards and act with integrity in all aspects of their work,be transparent and honest in all communication and decision-making

Leadership and team management

Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire the team to achieve organisational goals. Able to build positive relationships and create a culture of collaboration and trust

General Management

Experience in a corporate or NGO with experience of managing a diverse business portfolio with good working knowledge of the Companies Act

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

Academic Qualification/s
  • Post-graduate finance-related qualification
  • General management experience in an incubation or higher education institution with experience of managing a diverse business portfolio
  • Experience in income generation and securing funding

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to:

Strategy and Commercialisation

Drive, review and develop a commercial strategy to help grow the business and generate healthy profit margins.

  • Assist the CEO with all financial modelling, cash flow management and forecasting, financial structuring, and business cases
  • Investigate and ensure individual revenue stream profitability
  • Strategic input on finance, procurement, systems, controls, new business opportunities
  • Manage risk and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Manage cost centre efficiencies
  • Manage all commercial aspects of the business (i.e. insurance, legal, statutory compliance, IT systems)
Financial Reporting

Document and communicate financial activities and performance over specific time periods, in line with Wits University.

  • Deliver the Audited Financial Statements accurately and timeously
  • Prepare monthly management accounts to report to the senior management team, and quarterly financial reports for board meetings
  • Align with Wits Group financial reporting processes
Financial Management

Strategise, plan, organise, direct and control all financial undertakings.

  • Prepare the organisations annual budget, including departmental budgets and quarterly variances
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date financial records and ensuring that income is maximised
  • Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecast
  • Prepare and track budgets for the organisation
  • Advise on the preparation of project and business unit budgets
  • Overall responsibility for the effective and efficient running of finance of the organisation
  • Review and develop effective internal controls
  • Ensure tax compliance with SARS
  • Provide financial modelling expertise to project development and due diligence
  • Establishment of best practices in procurement with attention to systems, controls and forecasting models
  • Manage debtors and creditors
Management of Effective Bookkeeping Processes
  • Reconcile and balance all accounts
  • Draw up financial statements (Trial Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet)
  • Collate and analyse account data and generate financial reports
  • Maintain internal control systems and ensure good financial governance
  • Oversee the management of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Prepare payments and bank deposits
  • Prepare and process payroll with all statutory requirements
  • Comply with relevant reporting requirements
  • Calculate and prepare tax payments
Leadership and Team Management

Lead and motivate subordinates to advance employee engagement develop a high performing management team

  • Build and lead high-performing teams through a creative and enabling environment
  • Develop and maintain a healthy culture of high-performance within the entity, empowering action and accountability through the provision of guidance and support
  • Ensure implementation of and oversight of performance management ensuring the reinforcement of a high-performance standards and culture
  • Analyse staffing needs to ensure adequate resourcing commensurate with the operational needs of the organisation
